Recently a Chinese Taikonauts Zhai Zhigang and Liu Boming performed the first spacewalk by a Chinese astronaut. Congratualtions to Chinese people everywhere. It would be appropriate to talk a bit mroe about the interaction between Muslim astronomers from Central Asia, Iran and other parts of the Middle East with their counterparts in China and beyond. Previously I talked about the influence of the Muslim astronomers on the Chinese calender in the form of Huihui-li which was a calendar based on the Islamic and the Chinese sources. It was compiled by astronomers from the Muslim world and as well as Muslim and non-Muslim Chinese astronomers. The calendar was later adopted by the Koreans with some modifications. In the Korean reworking it seems that additional sources were used, namely Xiyu lifa tongjing (“Canon of the Western Astonomical Systems”) by a person named Liu Xin. This was yet another route where the Koreans were influenced by astronomers from the Islamic world.
